31 Aug Auto Repair: Winter Cup Round 4
The final round of the Winter Cup was held in glorious conditions on Sunday the 30th of August. A field of 95 cars all fought hard to gain dominance within their class, hoping to gain maximum points towards the outright cup. Unfortunately it didn’t go that well for some with mechanical issues forcing John Steggles to withdraw for competition when his Diahatsu Charade stalled and wouldn’t restart on the start line. This also meant that his 14 year old daughter Joanne didn’t get a chance to compete either. Joe Weigl also had issues early, blowing a radiator hose as he left the line in his V8 Ford Capri, but he did at least get the car repaired to return to competition after lunch. Jason Thiele also had a less than enjoyable day when he ran off into a rock and punctured a tyre, bringing his day to an end after the second run.
With the great conditions the open wheelers came to the fore with David Mahon and Derek Foster battling for outright supremacy. David won the battle in the early runs before Derek ran a 29.77 to set the fastest time of the day. Several class records and personal bests were set, and this is sure to make for a close finish to the Winter Cup for 2015, with 35 drivers in contention for class and outright trophies. At the time of writing this article, the official times hadn’t been released. But updates will follow in the next edition.
